How to Set Up a Skateboard
Get all your gear together in one spot. It's best to do all your setting up in a place where it's OK to get things dirty.
In order to put your Deck together you'll need the following.
1x Skateboard Deck
1x Sheet of Griptape
1x Mounting Hardware with 8 Screw (phillips or allen) with nuts
1x Set of Skateboard Trucks
4x Skateboard Wheels
8x Skateboard Bearings
and the follwing tools may help you with to set up your skateboard with out much trouble.
- at least one good skateboard tool of your choice
- a screw wrench for allen or phillips nuts
- a Cutter / a Carpetcutter will work just fine !
Right! Got it? Go! |
Step1
Get your skateboard and lay it graphics-side-down on a flat and clean surface.
Peel the proper length of griptape from its backing.
Line up the griptape over the skateboard deck so that it'll cover both ends of the board, as well as running all the way down the sides of the deck.
Apply one end of the grip to the board.
Roll the length of the tape down slowly, pressing it onto the board as you go to avoid any air bubbles. If any bubbles arise, you can pop them with the cutter. |
Step2
Set a file or something like that (even an old screwdriver will do) onto the tape at the board's edge. This will make an outline of the board where the tape is thinned by the file.
Puncture the grip from below with the razor and drag it along the thinned part of the tape, cutting the excess tape away from the board as you go. Please be carefull! A razor is not a toy and cutting yourself definitely put a damper on your skating... |
Step3
Flip the board over and push the bolts through the bolt holes and the grip so you can see where to put the trucks on. You can use the bolts or even something spiky like a small screwdriver. Pop the bolts through the holes in the top of the board, put your optional risers on the other side on top of the board, and place the trucks over the risers with the big kingpin bolt of the truck facing the middle of the board.
Put the nuts on the end of the bolts and tighten them until the top of the bolts are level with the top of the deck. |
Step4
Remove the nuts from the ends of the trucks and put one bearing in place on the axle. Put one wheel on top of the bearing and push down on it until the bearing is secured in the wheel.
Repeat this process for all the bearings and wheels.
Slide all the wheels in place on the axles of the trucks.
Put the bolts back on the axles and tighten them with your wrench until the wheels aren't turning very easily. Then loosen the bolts one-half turn so the wheels will spin. |
Step5
Now get yourself together, go outside and have fun! :) |
